Research shows effects of value-based pay models

A study of the Fairview Health Services accountable care organization in Minnesota, which bases 40% of pay on quality and performance outcomes, showed clinicians who made the biggest improvements were those with the lowest baseline performance scores. A second study of the Physician Group Incentive Program in Michigan found a fee-for-value model for primary care physicians reduced spending and improved or maintained quality performance on 11 of 14 measures.
