According to a study by Cornell University School of Hotel Administration’s Center for Hospitality Research entitled “Assessing the benefits of rewards programs, 2014”:

  • frequent hotel guests spend more per year ($2400 vs. $1600) once they have enrolled in a loyalty program
  • On average, 45 percent of customers enroll in loyalty programs and 35 percent redeem rewards
  • The top challenges of these programs are:
    • ensuring member awareness, understanding of the program and its benefits
    • measuring the results of the loyalty program
    • garnering support and budget for the program from executives
    • aligning loyalty strategy with the overarching business strategy
    • delivering offers with a high perceived value
