Lawmakers, health dept. look for ways to cut Medicaid without eliminating services
On Wednesday, the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), and Sen. Pete Kelly discussed bills to trim Medicaid costs statewide and take advantage of federal reimbursement.
Gov. Bill Walker’s Medicaid reform bill — Senate Bill 78 — and Kelly’s Senate Bill 74, both emphasize a focus on reducing Medicaid fraud. The governor’s proposal includes a provision called the Medicaid False Claim Act — which would provide a financial reward to someone who reports Medicaid fraud 15 to 25 percent of settlement proceeds if the case goes to court.
