The provider community is undergoing a fundamental shift from a fee-for-service to a fee-for-value model. At the same time, providers are being asked to comply with a complex new law that fundamentally holds them accountable for results. As stated by a well-known hospital leader,
“Incentive programs which can help organizations focus the attention of busy clinicians on tasks that help deliver better, more cost-effective care are very valuable at a time when the health care system is transitioning from fee-for-service to new payment models.”
Aligning financial rewards for physicians with desired behaviors is critical to not only creating fee-for-value but also compensating them in a manner that provides financial stability and viability.
